Feng Li currently is a full professor in Institute of Metal Research (IMR), CAS. He got his bachelor degree in Application Chemistry from Nanjing University of Technology in 1995, received master, PhD degrees in Physics and Chemistry of Materials, Materials Science from IMR in 1998 and 2001 respectively. After that he joined IMR as research associate, he was promoted to associate professor in 2004, was promoted to Professor in 2008.
His current research interests are centered on Novel carbon based materials for lithium ion batteries, lithium sulfur battery and supercapacitors. He has published about 140 papers on peer-reviewed journals such as Angew. Chemie, Energy & Environmental Science, Adv. Mater., Adv. Funct. Mater., ACS Nano, etc. His work has been cited by over 5500 times, current h-index stands at 35. In addition, he has about 20 Chinese patents.

With the advent of flexible electronics, flexible electrochemical energy storage and conversion devices have attracted great attention as a promising power source in the emerging field of flexible and wearable electronic devices. [1] Graphene as 2D carbon materials, have high specific surface area, good chemical stability, high electrical and thermal conductivity, and excellent flexibility. Therefore, graphene-based materials can be used as free-standing and binder-free electrodes for flexible electrochemical energy storage and conversion devices. By using the graphene, several kinds flexible electrode were explored.[2-5] A flexible graphene/polyaniline paper was prepared by in situ anodic electropolymerization of polyaniline on a graphene membrane, and it shows a stable large electrochemical capacitance and excellent cyclibility; graphene-cellulose paper membranes were fabricated as freestanding and binder-free electrodes for flexible supercapacitors with good performance. We also developed template-directed chemical vapor deposition to synthesize a three-dimensional interconnected graphene framework. By coating active materials on the graphene framework, an anode and cathode were made to assemble a thin, lightweight and flexible lithium ion battery [6] and lithium sulfur battery. The battery has high rate capability and capacity, and can be repeatedly bent down to <5 mm without failure and degradation of its electrochemical performance.
