ICREA Research Professor at the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2), Spain; Group Leader of the Advanced Electronic Materials and Devices Group and Deputy Director of ICN2; co-founder, Chief Scientific Officer (CSO), and board member of INBRAIN Neuroelectronics, an ICN2 spin-off company. His research focuses on the preparation, characterization, and device technologies of graphene and other two-dimensional materials, with an emphasis on developing flexible graphene electrodes for neural interfaces, brain-computer interfaces, and bioelectronics. His representative achievements include leading the Biomedical Technology Work Package of the Graphene Flagship and coordinating EU projects such as the brain implant project BrainCom, the retinal implant project i-VISION, and the closed-loop neuromodulation project MINIGRAPH. In 2024, he published a paper in Nature Nanotechnology on nanoporous graphene electrodes for high-resolution in vivo neural recording and stimulation, and he has advanced the world's first human clinical study of a graphene cortical interface, which received approval from the UK's MHRA. At this conference, he plans to report on the latest progress in graphene neural interfaces and brain-computer interfaces, as well as the first human clinical study and its industrialization pathway.
