Professor Liu Kaihui is currently a Boya Distinguished Professor and doctoral supervisor at the School of Physics, Peking University, and director of the Institute of Condensed Matter Physics and Materials Physics. He is a recipient of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, a recipient of the Science Explorer Prize, and a chief scientist of National Key R&D Program projects. He received his bachelor's degree from the Department of Physics, Beijing Normal University in 2004, and his Ph.D. from the Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2009 (under Academician Wang Enge). From 2009 to 2014, he conducted postdoctoral research at the Department of Physics, University of California, Berkeley in the United States (with Professor Wang Feng as collaborating supervisor). In 2014, he joined the School of Physics, Peking University. He is mainly engaged in research on meter-scale two-dimensional single-crystal atomic manufacturing and nanoscale spectroscopy characterization technology. His team independently designed meter-scale single-crystal manufacturing equipment and built a nanoscale spectroscopy characterization system at the level of single low-dimensional material units, achieving a series of advances in the direction of surface/interface growth regulation of two-dimensional materials, general manufacturing technology for meter-scale single-crystal thin films, surface/interface coupling physics, and devices. He proposed a new crystal growth paradigm of "lattice mass transfer–interface growth," achieving controllable preparation of 100,000-layer single-crystal graphene and meter-scale two-dimensional single crystals. The results were published in Science, and he has promoted frontier applications such as single-crystal high-purity copper materials, optical crystals, and fiber-type electron sources. In the past five years, he has published more than 60 papers as corresponding author, including 9 in Science/Nature, more than 30 in Nature sub-journals and PRL, edited 2 monographs, and obtained 51 authorized patents. His research results were selected as one of China's Major Technological Advances in 2020, one of China's Top Ten Semiconductor Research Advances in 2020 and 2024, and a major achievement of the Zhongguancun Forum from 2024 to 2026. He has won the Special Prize of the Natural Science Award of the Ministry of Education, the First Prize of the Beijing Science and Technology Award, and the Hu Gangfu Award of the Chinese Physical Society. At the conference's Future Information Forum, he plans to share the preparation and application of meter-scale two-dimensional single crystals.
