Professor in the Department of Bioengineering and Biotechnology, Faculty of Medical Engineering, University Politehnica of Bucharest, Romania, and head of the Advanced Polymer Materials research group. She received her M.Sc. in Industrial Chemistry from Politehnica University of Bucharest in 2001, and her Ph.D. in Chemistry from Politehnica University of Bucharest and her Ph.D. in Bioengineering from Politecnico di Milano, Italy, in 2007 and 2008, respectively. She conducted research in Italy with support from an EU FP6 Marie Curie Fellowship. Her research focuses on graphene-based biomaterials, polymer/graphene composites, bone tissue engineering scaffolds, 3D printing/additive manufacturing, computer-aided materials design, and optical/electrochemical biosensors. Representative achievements include leading/coordinating multiple Romanian and international research projects (such as the GRABTOP project, which uses novel graphene biosensors to detect the osteogenic potential of stem cells for regenerative medicine). She has published more than 100 peer-reviewed papers, authored 4 book chapters, and edited a monograph, with an h-index of approximately 22. Her developed chitosan/graphene oxide three-dimensional porous scaffolds, combined with molecular simulation and experimental optimization, have significantly promoted bone defect repair. She is scheduled to present at this conference on the design, preparation, and applications of 3D polymer-graphene biomaterials in bone tissue engineering and regenerative medicine.
Honors: Habilitation, Faculty of Medical Engineering, Politehnica University of Bucharest (2019); member of the Materials Science Committee of the Romanian National Council for Scientific Research; editorial board member of journals such as Composites Part B: Engineering; recipient of an EU FP6 Marie Curie Fellowship.
