Biography
Stephan Roche, ICREA Research Professor at the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2), where he leads the Theory and Computational Nanoscience Research Group. He received his PhD from the University of Grenoble, France, in 1996, and has conducted research in Japan, Spain, and Germany. He is the leader of the Spintronics Work Package of the EU Graphene Flagship and a recipient of the Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel Research Award from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in Germany. His research focuses on the quantum transport theory of Dirac materials (graphene and topological insulators) and van der Waals heterostructures of two-dimensional materials. He pioneered linear-scaling quantum transport computational methods capable of simulating disorder models at the scale of billions of atoms. He has published more than 100 papers.
